Hello,
We are called People More because we treat our employees with respect, but also because the projects we work on are for people and should be easy and pleasant to use. We are technological, but we look at the bigger picture :)
The company is made up of people with a huge client base in the country and abroad, for whom we build projects from scratch (UX, UI, frontend, backend, mobile) or in part. We work directly for our clients and also support our partners in their own solutions. This ensures a wide range of projects and the ability to change! We work with clients all over the world.
For the project that we are working on with our partner, we are looking for Freelance Windows/WSL Dev Environment Engineer.
We’re investing heavily in making our developer environment fast, reliable and boringly simple. Today, spinning up a full toolchain for programming and simulating our robotic stations is slow and fragile (Windows‑only virtual robot controller, piles of dependencies, WSL/Docker/firewall quirks).
Your mission: design and deliver a one‑click setup that our engineers, logistics–integration partners and external contractors can use without drama.
Your duties will include:
-
Map the current setup (Windows virtual robot controller + WSL2 + Docker Desktop + simulation dependencies) and pinpoint the pain points.Propose and validate architecture options:
laptop provisioning that “just works”,
Windows‑only components hosted in the cloud,
or a fully cloud‑based dev workspace (while being cost‑conscious).
-
Build the bootstrap process end‑to‑end (images, scripts, IaC) for repeatable, self‑service onboarding.
-
Make Windows, WSL2 and Docker play nicely together (networking, file‑system performance, GPU/USB pass‑through if needed, firewall rules).
-
Automate provisioning for laptops and cloud VMs (golden images, artifact registries, secrets management).
-
Document the happy path and the escape hatches; enable partners/contractors to be productive on day one.
-
Continuously improve: measure setup time, failure rates, cost and developer experience—and iterate.
Requirements that must be met:
-
Strong Windows administration skills (services, policies, firewalling, networking, troubleshooting).
-
Deep hands‑on with WSL2 and Docker Desktop on Windows (bridged networking, DNS, volumes, performance tuning).
-
Scripting: Python is a plus.
-
Provisioning & bootstrap experience on Windows (e.g., Chocolatey/Scoop, sysprep, unattended installs).
-
Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD basics (Git; any of Terraform/Packer/Cloud‑Build/GitHub Actions).
-
GCP fundamentals (Compute Engine Windows images/LIC, VPC, Artifact/Container Registry; cost awareness).
-
Ownership mindset: you spot risks, propose options, and drive decisions without waiting for perfect specs.
- Very good English and Polish
